A year at Trevyr Barn
We really enjoy the changing seasons at Trevyr Barn. Here are some ideas for things you can see and do without going very far at all.
Spring
Go for one of the Grosmont walks and enjoy the wild flowers (celandines, anemones, wild garlic).
Walk to Llangatock Lingoed and enjoy some local cider at the Hunter's Moon.
In late spring, enjoy cherry and apple blossom in the orchard, hawthorn just about everywhere and carpets of bluebells on the Graig.
Have a BBQ in the orchard; watch the bats feeding at dusk, listen out for owls and enjoy a spot of star gazing.
Summer
Wander down to the village, 20 minutes' walk away. Explore the castle and visit our medieval church. Have an ice cream or a home-made cake at Gentle Jane.
Cycle to Skenfrith and take a dip in the River Monnow by the castle green.
Check out the local festival calendar, or visit one of the many traditional village fun days.
Plan a picnic with fruit from the orchard and fresh produce from our vegetable plot.
Autumn
Enjoy walnuts, or hazlenuts from our trees (if you can beat the squirrels). Enjoy the autumn colours up on the hills.
Go foraging for blackberries and other hedgerow fruits on the Graig.
Cycle the Four Castles or the Sustrans trail from Abergavenny to Brynmawr.
Winter
If we get snow, make sure you bring a sledge and check out our slopes.
Walk down to the village and sit by the log fire in the Angel Inn with a newspaper and a glass of real ale or local cider.
Pick up some great local produce and cook up a feast.
